UberSeal F.A.Q.

How does it work?

Can I paint over it?

Yes, you may paint over UberSeal with any acrylic paint to add another level of protection or waterproofing.

How do you apply it?

  1. Dilute 1 part UberSeal with 1 part clean water as a primer or ‘soak in’ mix. Apply primer coat liberally. The aim is to totally saturate the masonry, and frequent light passes over the same area with the sprayer while still damp will provide the best conditions for maximum absorption. Do not allow to dry between passes, respray as soon as the primer coat is absorbed.

The primer coat will turn the wall white but will dry clear. Allow at least 1 hour to dry (at 24ºC) or wait until the surface appears dry and clear. Do not return unused primer mix to pail.
  2. Apply a second top coat of UberSeal – do not dilute the second coat, apply neat from the pail. As the surface will already be sealed the top coat will not be as quickly absorbed as the primer coat and should be applied more slowly and sparingly – aim for an even coverage and avoid runs where possible. Multipurpose may remain tacky on some surfaces until fully cured.
  3. Leave to cure for 7 days, when fully cured the surface appears dry and clear.

Can It be used as a final coating for horizontal / trafficable areas?

UberSeal is not designed as a final coating for horizontal / trafficable areas and should be covered or overcoated.  Allow at least 24 hours (at 24°C) to dry before applying screeds, tiles or any other coatings or coverings.

Do I need to use a membrane with UberSeal?

No, UberSeal is an acrylic rubber based compound that creates a permanently flexible waterproof membrane and can exceed 300% elongation at break when stretched.

Is it safe for fish and animals?

Yes, it is safe to use in dams where fish and stock are present.  It is also perfectly safe to use with potable water in reservoirs

While UberSeal is suitable for potable water we suggest a quick rinse with a hose prior to re-filling.

Will UberSeal accommodate minor movements in the substrate?

Yes, UberSeal has a rubber component that allows it to stretch with minor movements in the substrate/structure.

Do I have to apply it to the inside of the tank?

UberSeal has been successful in repairing leaks following application to the outside surface of water tanks only - most membranes need to be applied to the inside of the tank.

Best results are obtained by sealing the positive side of the structure – ie the side in contact with water or inside.

Does the concrete/substrate have to be dry?

While a number of membranes require a dry substrate UberSeal can be applied to damp concrete.

What is the coverage?

  • 1st coat 10m2 per litre (soak in mix, UberSeal diluted with water 1:1)
  • 2nd coat 5m2 per litre (undiluted UberSeal)

To be safe work on 5m2 per litre as it may be different on the various substrates

How long will it last in the dam? Is it permanent?

The polymers are insoluble and through compaction and sedimentation the polymers will become a permanent part of the dam’s structure.
